AIIMS Patna Turns 14: Governor Calls Doctors ‘God’s Messengers of Service

Patna. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Patna celebrated its Foundation Day with grandeur, marking 14 years of excellence in healthcare, education, and service. The event witnessed the presence of Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, Member of Parliament Tariq Ansari, Director Dr. Saurabh Varshne, newly appointed Director Dr. Raju Agrawal, founding Director Dr. G.K. Singh, Dean Dr. Poonam Badani, Dr. Ruchi Sinha, Dr. Anup Kumar, Dr. Ramji Singh along with a large gathering of faculty members, students, doctors, and staff.

Governor Arif Mohammad Khan congratulated the AIIMS Patna family, saying:

“AIIMS Patna has not only provided medical treatment but also imparted knowledge and service. It is not confined to treating diseases but has contributed significantly under national health schemes for the welfare of society.”

He praised the institution’s efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic:

“The role played by AIIMS Patna during COVID-19 was exemplary. In just 14 years, the institute has emerged as a lifesaver for the underprivileged and marginalized communities.”

Reflecting on Indian cultural values, the Governor added:

“In our culture, service to humanity is the greatest service. Doctors are truly a form of God because by caring for patients, they are serving the divine.”

MP Tariq Ansari emphasized the significance of AIIMS Patna for the people of Bihar:

“AIIMS Patna was a long-cherished dream of the people of Bihar, and today that dream has been fulfilled. Now, citizens no longer need to travel outside the state for quality healthcare.”

He further assured:

“I will propose an increase in the healthcare budget to further strengthen facilities at AIIMS Patna.”

Adding to the sentiments, Director Dr. Saurabh Varshne highlighted the institution’s journey and achievements:

“The 14-year journey of AIIMS Patna has been truly remarkable. Today the institute is fully functional, and thousands of poor patients feel blessed to receive treatment here. It has become a symbol of hope for Bihar.”

During the event, the contributions and milestones of AIIMS Patna were recalled. Over the past 14 years, the institute has transformed the healthcare landscape of Bihar and Eastern India. It has become a lifeline for the poor and needy, while also making strides in medical research, digital healthcare delivery, and advanced technology-driven treatments.

The Foundation Day concluded with a collective pledge to take AIIMS Patna to new heights in healthcare, medical education, and research, strengthening its mission of “Seva Parmo Dharma” — Service as the highest duty.
